Description
Our retro enamel mug highlights five of Singapore’s most beloved contemporary architectural icons, complete with the nicknames affectionately given to them by those who live in this city.
“The Durian” is Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay, Singapore’s world class arts and performance venue. There are more performances here than the number of days in the year!
“The Lotus” refers to the ArtScience Museum, designed by world renowned architect, Moshe Safdie. The lotus-inspired design comprises “ten fingers” symbolizing the welcoming hand of Singapore.
“The Supertree” combines high tech with a touch of whimsy. Located within Gardens by the Bay, there are 18 towering cocktail glass-shaped Supertrees blooming with thousands of plants, including epiphytes, orchids and bromeliads.
“The Dim Sum Baskets” is The Hive Library at Nanyang Technological University. The colloquial name refers to its likeness to the steamer baskets used to contain dim sum. The Hive was a finalist for the 2015 World Architecture Festival Commercial Mixed-Use Award.
“The Merlion” is the official mascot of Singapore. It is a mythical creature, with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. The Merlion’s fish-like body symbolises Singapore’s origins as a fishing village, known as Temasek. The statue’s head represents the city’s original name of Singapura (lion city in Sanskrit).
Care:
* Hand wash recommended.
* NOT dishwasher safe or microwave safe.
* Due to the inherent nature of enamel, slight imperfections with the finish are normal, with minor lumps, bumps or even an odd blemish. This is a characteristic of an enamel finished product, and adds to its charm.
